SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER

Letter to:

A Coach

I want to share something that may be relevant to how you work with some of the people in your program. Lipedema is a condition that causes disproportionate fat accumulation in the legs and arms, along with pain and fatigue. It affects roughly 1 in 9 young women and commonly onset at puberty, which means it can be present in young athletes who appear to be working hard without the results you'd expect. It doesn't respond to training the way typical body composition does. If someone on your roster is dealing with pain and swelling that doesn't fit the usual pattern, lipedema is worth knowing about.
