SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER

Letter to:

PE teacher

I'm reaching out because I want you to have accurate information about a condition called lipedema. It affects an estimated 11% of young women and commonly onset at puberty, which means it can first appear in students the age you're teaching. It causes disproportionate fat accumulation in the legs, along with pain, fatigue, and easy bruising. Movement is still valuable, but it doesn't reduce the affected tissue, and pushing through pain can cause harm. For anyone you work with whose body looks different or moves differently than expected, this condition may be part of why. Knowing about it changes what good support looks like.
